National Orientation Agency(NOA) has Re-branded its War Against Indiscipline and Corruption Brigade(WAI) to Community Support Brigade(CSB), at an event which held at old Parade ground on the 21st of May, 2013.

The New Brigade was Unveiled by his Execellency Distinguished Senator Ike Ekweremadu.

Excerpts of the Speech Delivered by his Execellency Distinguished Senator Ike Ekweremadu:

These days, it is not unusual to see people urinating or defecating in the open and in unauthorised places or civil servants misusing governments’ property put in their care or Nigerians not queuing up in public places; this is observed daily in banks, bus stops and filling stations.

These negative attitudes have been of great concern to the government over the years. Various programmes, including the War Against Indiscipline (WAI) were introduced to sensitise Nigerians on the need to develop the right attitudes.

Aware that no policy can succeed without attitudinal change, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) recently launched a campaign designed to re-orientate Nigerians. The campaign is tagged: “Do the Right Thing: Transform Nigeria.’’ At the official launch of the campaign, President Goodluck Jonathan stressed the need for attitudinal change among Nigerians; “This is a moral re-awakening programme that will galvanise the people to greatness which lies in the right attitude,’’ the President said.

According to him, the change would offer the nation a new lease of life, as no nation could grow without a remarkable change in the citizens’ attitude. He observed that although the assignment could be arduous, it would get support from the administration.

Experts argue that no nation could sustain its integrity without enduring values and ethics, nor can Nigeria develop or sustain developmental efforts without sound moral values and doing the right thing.
It is true that most of the developed societies attained their present status through the concerted efforts of all citizens and residents. Unfortunately, same cannot be said of our dear country, Nigeria where citizens do and say unprintable things about their country without recourse to the impact of such on the nation.

However, there are other Nigerians who still believe that the country will work and achieve greatness, regardless of its current state. With the transformation agenda already set by the Administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, Nigeria is on its way to all round development that will meet the yearnings of all and sundry.

Nevertheless, it must be stated that meaningful and enduring transformation is a challenge for both the leaders and the followers even as it demands attitudinal change across board.
Nigerians should know that the onus is on them to give whatever they can in evolving a country of their dream. There is need for us to have a holistic reflection of our lifestyle and see if we have contributed anything substantial to the national drive towards economic prosperity.

We should all use our positions to contribute meaningfully to the progress and growth of the nation. It is on this note that those involved in the recent threat to national unity and security are urged to have a rethink. It takes unpatriotic elements to bomb and destroy their country’s places of interest as being witnessed in the country, no matter the grievances or level of provocation. It is regrettable that this new dimension had put Nigeria in the global spotlight for the wrong reasons.

It is a national demand on us as citizens to become more conscious of security and volunteer necessary information about unpatriotic persons. Patriotism demands that citizens toe the path of dialogue and adopt peaceful means of expressing their grievances against any policy or programme of government. Whatever we do, we must ask ourselves, how much does it enhance the transformation process? No matter how good the intention of the government, it is the patriotic zeal on the part of those in authority and the citizens that will translate to faithfulness and efficacy in translating them to the positive results.

In our history as a nation, our leaders have had the need and genuine desire to correct the ills plaguing our dear nation Nigeria and this has led to the formation of the war against indiscipline brigade (WAI Brigade). This great Brigade which came to serve as a tool for national conscientization on issues bothering on indiscipline, order in the society and attitudinal reformation was formed in 1984 by the military regime as a voluntary outfit which was aimed at instilling discipline and order in the minds of all Nigerians.

Over the years, the National Orientation agency had maintained the name WAI Brigade which is viewed to be out of place for the outfit considering the fact that the Brigade members render community services. In fact, they are the foot soldiers of the agency, be it at workplace, social gathering, places of worship, in schools, at community settings e.t.c where they discharge their civic responsibilities.
The brigade is made up of professionals, artisans, employed and unemployed youths. Members are expected to live by example and carry out community related duties and render humanitarian services to the community.

It has become imperative to rebrand, reposition and refocus the WAI Brigade to serve in a democratic environment in promoting peace and community development in line with the transformation Agenda of the President.

The community support Brigade will be launched and unveiled today, to take over the activities and programmes of the WAI Brigade; it will mean a new beginning for us all in this journey of self-actualisation as citizens of our dear Nation Nigeria.

All well-meaning Nigerians are invited to herald a new dawn of attitudinal change and value re-orientation as the new Community Support Brigade (CSB) will be energised to be vanguards of this cause. Nigeria is blessed and will remain blessed.
