Mimiko Tasks Ondo Christian Pilgrims

Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State has urged intending Christian pilgrims from the state to pray for the peace, progress and development of the country.

Mr Kola Ademujimi, the Chief of Staff at the Government House, who represented the governor, said this on Thursday in Akure during an orientation lecture for 2013 Christian pilgrims.

"Please remember that you are going there for spiritual empowerment and not for jamboree or an avenue for tourism or any business transaction.

"Therefore, pray for the peace, progress and development of Nigeria so that God should put an end to the blood-bath in Ondo State and in the country at large," he said.

He warned the pilgrims against absconding, saying this would tarnish the image of Ondo State.

"I want you to know that the Israeli government frowns at any absconding move. So go there and avoid any embarrassment that can tarnish the good image of the state," he said.

Responding, Mr Lawrence Akinlolu, the Chairman, Ondo State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, thanked the governor for sponsoring pilgrimages annually.

"I thank this administration led by Gov. Mimiko for his kind gesture toward both religions in the state.

"I assure you that we are going to be good ambassadors of the state by praying for it and being of good conduct," he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that no fewer than 254 intending pilgrims from the state would participate in the pilgrimage. (NAN)
